Treating wastewater and protecting aquatic environments have more in common than many people think. That is the lesson Clean Water Services (Hillsboro, Ore.) wants all ages to learn with its new The Plant and the Plant animated video.

The 90-second video explains how water resource recovery facility operators clean water before returning it to waterways while recovering nutrients and other resources. It also explains how ecologists plant native vegetation to filter pollution from runoff and improve wildlife habitat.

“Clean water and a healthy environment are basic needs that sustain our community in the Tualatin River Watershed,” according to Ely Teragli, education and outreach coordinator for Clean Water Services. The video was created as an outreach tool so members of the local community can see how cleaning water has evolved to meet the needs of the local Tualatin River and its community, she added. Local residents also can learn more about Clean Water Services by taking a community facility tour or participating in a planting event.
