Every month, the Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) provides online access to cutting-edge water research in its journal Water Environment Research. At least one research paper each month is available open-access.
The February issue of the journal features nearly 100 pages of research provided in 11 papers that focus on topics ranging from wetlands and watersheds to activated sludge to anaerobic digestion to reuse. In this month’s open-access article, “Evaluation of a Gravity Flow Membrane Bioreactor for Treating Municipal Wastewater,” researchers evaluate the ability of the biomass concentrator reactor to reduce chemical oxygen demand, nitrogen, and ammonia in wastewater. Other papers published in this issue include
- “Augmentation of Water Resources Potential and Cropping Intensification Through Watershed Programs,”
- “Inactivation of Bacillus Spores in Wash Waters Using Dilute Chlorine Bleach Solutions at Different Temperatures and pH Levels,”
- “Biodegradation and Metabolism of Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) in the Bioaugmented Activated Sludge Batch Bioreactor System by Heterotrophic and Nitrifying Bacteria,”
- “Comparison of Reed and Water Lettuce in Constructed Wetlands for Wastewater Treatment,”
- “Enhanced Treatment Properties of Iron Oxide Amended Sands Coupled with Polyelectrolyte to Humic Acid,”
- “Zr-Metal Organic Framework and Derivatives for Adsorptive and Photocatalytic Removal of Acid Dyes,”
- “Anaerobic Digestion Effluents (ADEs) Treatment Coupling with Chlorella Microalgae Production,”
- “Chromosomal and Nuclear Alterations in the Root Tip Cells of Vicia faba Induced by Sodium Chloride,”
