The water sector celebrated Infrastructure Week 2016 from May 16 to 23. Organizations from around the U.S. joined to show that deferred maintenance and lack of investment in infrastructure is a threat to public health and safety, jobs, and economic growth, according to a Value of Water Coalition news release.

A steering committee of the Value of Water Coalition led Infrastructure Week 2016. The coalition is a collaboration of U.S. water organizations, including the Water Environment Federation (Alexandria, Va.), that work to increase public awareness of the value of water. To celebrate and shine a spotlight on innovative solutions to water infrastructure crises, members of the coalition hosted various events throughout the week.

Value of Water CoalitionMany facilities hosted tours to tell the story of why infrastructure matters as well as to show how they are securing a sustainable water future. Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (Cleveland) and Alexandria (Va.) Renew Enterprises invited the press and public officials to tour and learn more about their facilities and programs. Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and LA Sanitation (Los Angeles) invited the public to tour and learn about their facilities.
