WEFTEC Update: “Navigating Our Water’s Future” To Feature EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson will be the keynote speaker for Featured Session No. 1, “Rethinking Water Services: Navigating Our Water’s Future,” at WEFTEC 2012 in New Orleans.Jackson will provide a special keynote address, “40 Years of Clean Water and Innovation for Tomorrow,” that will set the stage for a panel discussion with water sector thought leaders.

The panelist will look at the big picture of water and explore better ways to achieve success. The discussion will be grounded in practice and experience but will examine both what the reinvented utility will look like in 20 years and how the sector can collectively and proactively take steps to get there.

Topics will include fast-growing populations, climate change, emerging contaminants, aging infrastructure, lack of support for investment, and increasingly strained budgets.

The session also will include audience participation. Audience members should come prepared to share their views on a new vision for water management and how the sector can achieve it.

The session is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 1 at 10:30 a.m., at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center in the New Orleans Theater, Level Three.
