The Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) Water Advocates program encourages water sector professionals to take action and support funding for water infrastructure.

The Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds (SRFs) provide water sector utilities with a financing tool to build and modernize the infrastructure that protects public and environmental health while promoting economic growth. WEF has joined a coalition of eight other water organizations in requesting that the federal government’s fiscal year 2018 (FY18) appropriation amounts for SRF programs be doubled from the FY16 enacted amount, which equals $1.8 billion for the Drinking Water SRF and $2.8 billion for the Clean Water SRF. The program encourages water sector representatives to join the cause and urge members of Congress to provide robust funding for water infrastructure during FY18.

WEF provides background information about SRF funding and asks professionals to become Water Advocates. Through the program, advocates receive training and information needed to become active supporters of the water sector in local communities.
