The Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) now provides cutting-edge technical information and learning opportunities focused on algae.
WEF’s new online technical topic area — the algae webpage — educates about the wastewater bioremediation potential of algae and provides such technical resources as
- “Algae Bioreactors as a Cost-Effective Approach for Enhanced Nutrient Removal – Approaching it from All Sides,” the recording of a WEF webcast;
- “Algae: From Resource Depletion to Resource Recovery,” an open-access article; and
- links to additional research and other resources for more information.
In conjunction with the Algae Biomass Organization (ABO; Preston, Minn.) 2016 Algae Biomass Summit, WEF, the AZ Water Association, and ABO sponsored the Algae for Wastewater Treatment Workshop. An open access digest, “Algae for Wastewater Treatment Workshop Proceedings,” provides presentation slides from all of the workshop speakers who discussed the biotechnology as well as the design, finance, and regulation of algae for wastewater treatment.
The 2017 Algae Biomass Summit is scheduled to take place Oct. 29 – Nov. 1 in Salt Lake City. Water sector professionals interested in algae research, technology, and networking opportunities are invited to attend.
