WEF Resources & Efforts

NGICP SealThe Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) and DC Water (Washington, D.C.) have launched the National Green Infrastructure Certification Program (NGICP) website.

As part of the WEF Stormwater Institute, NGICP consists of a growing group of utility organizations from across the nation working to develop the program that will provide certification for green infrastructure (GI) construction, inspection, and maintenance workers. The program will ensure that these individuals meet international best-practice standards to ensure the long-term sustainability of their green infrastructure projects. The founding organizations, WEF and DC Water, expect to award the first NGICP certifications early next year.

The program website will be updated continually to provide the latest information on the program, including

  • information about the application and exam processes;
  • a downloadable “NGICP: Body of Knowledge” that program participants can use to study GI topics and skills; and
  • other certification resources including links to regional training opportunities.

“We are excited about this new website and the robust information it provides for GI professionals, program partners, utilities, and other stakeholders to better understand NGICP’s mission and the exciting opportunities it provides to support this growing segment of the water sector,” said WEF Executive Director Eileen O’Neill. “We will continue to develop and promote this new standard for supporting a skilled GI workforce that is essential to sustainable communities.”
