Through the Leaders Innovation Forum for Technology (LIFT) program, the Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) and Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF; Alexandria, Va.), hosted the 2015 Intensification of Resource Recovery (IRR) Forum. Technology providers were selected through the LIFT Technology Scans to showcase at the forum.

On Aug. 9–11, water sector leaders gathered at the event to

  • improve understanding of intensifying technologies;
  • develop partnerships with technology providers, facility owners, consultants, and academics with an interest in those technologies;
  • form teams that will move ahead with testing or implementing new technologies;
  • form a research and development group to accomplish objectives; and
  • provide a clear indication of the most critical research needs for a new WERF research program on intensification.

A column by Jeanette Brown, past president of WEF and member of the IRR forum steering committee, will share her perspectives on the forum. The column will appear in the October issue of WEF Highlights.
