Laws & Regs

On Aug. 9, the Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) filed an amicus brief with the California 5th District Court of Appeals. The brief offers support for Southern California municipal agencies in their legal challenge to a ban on land application of biosolids in Kern County, Calif. The National Association of Clean Water Agencies (Washington, D.C.) also filed a similar amicus brief with the court.

The briefs provide a review of current science demonstrating the benefits and safety of recycling biosolids to land. WEF’s brief encouraged the court to affirm an earlier injunction against land application restrictions initiated by Kern County.
