The Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) has announced a new initiative that helps make water research available to a larger audience.

Since 1928, WEF has published research in its journal, Water Environment Research (WER). In April, WEF began offering authors of this research the opportunity to make their articles open-access.

WER authors who are individual and institutional subscribers to the journal now can choose to make their research open-access online for anyone to read or download for free. Nonsubscriber authors can pay a $1400 fee to designate articles as open-access. Nonsubscriber authors who are WEF members will receive a 20% discount from this $1400 fee. But all types of annual subscriptions are less expensive than this nonsubscriber fee. Any authors with accepted papers interested in taking advantage of this opportunity should contact Anthony Krizel, WER managing editor, at akrizel@wef.org.

Every month, Tim Ellis, WER editor-in-chief, chooses one of the journal’s research articles to be available open-access online. But anyone can subscribe to WER to access all articles online anytime or receive both a print version and online access to research. WEF members receive discounts on both types of subscriptions.
