An expanded, 10-partner coalition has updated Effective Utility Management: A Primer for Water and Wastewater Utilities. The document includes an expanded implementation guide that walks water sector leaders through the creation of an improvement plan.

The updated primer will help utilities meet the challenges of

  • aging infrastructure,
  • rapidly evolving technology,
  • heightened customer expectations,
  • rising costs, and
  • ongoing regulatory requirements.

In 2008, the original version of the primer was released by six organizations working in collaboration with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The report, based on the 10 attributes of effectively managed water sector utilities and five keys to management success, provides water leaders with a common-sense, replicable, and proactive way to meet a range of complex challenges facing the water sector.

The expanded coalition that provided leadership for the updated primer includes representatives of public and private sector utilities and state agencies that provide water and wastewater services around the U.S.
