WEF Letter Supports Legislation to Increase Clean Water SRF

On March 7, the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment held a hearing on the Water Quality Protection and Job Creation Act of 2019 (H.R. 1497). The bill would more than double the size of the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF).

The Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) joined other water sector organizations in sending a letter supporting the legislation. “America’s future economic strength depends on investments made today in clean water infrastructure,” the letter says. “We believe the Water Quality Protection and Job Creation Act of 2019 can help facilitate these critical investments in water infrastructure.”

U.S Rep. Peter DeFazio (D–Ore.) introduced the bill, which has gained bipartisan support in the House. It would allow U.S. Congress to appropriate $4 billion annually to the State Revolving Fund, which provides low-interest loans to utilities for wastewater infrastructure.
