WEF Letter to Congress Supports Clean Water State Revolving Fund

The Water Environment Federation (Alexandria, Va.) has submitted a letter to leaders in the appropriations committees of both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate supporting the Clean Water State Revolving Fund program and urging Congress to fund the program to the “highest possible level” in fiscal year 2014.

The letter describes how construction needs for local governments to meet Clean Water Act regulations are estimated to exceed $550 billion and the fund is necessary to help meet these needs. During the last decade, appropriations levels for the fund have been $1.5 billion annually. Reducing this amount will affect the success of improving water quality, public health, economic development, and quality of life, the letter says.
