WEF Urges Congress To Fund SRF Programs

On June 18, the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee voted for its version of FY16 Interior and Environment Appropriations bill, and on June 16, the U.S. House Appropriations Committee passed its version. Both bills include major cuts to the Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SRF) programs, riders to block the Clean Water Rule, and policy riders and funding issues that will affect the water sector.

The Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) and a coalition of six other water associations are urging Congress to fund the SRF programs at current FY15 levels. The coalition sent an open letter to Congress expressing opposition to the SRF reductions, as well as support for other important infrastructure funding programs such as the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) and the Bureau of Reclamation Title XVI program, which funds water recycling projects.

WEF asks members to contact their congressional representatives to express opposition to the cuts.
