Historic WRRF draws thousands of visitors during Doors Open Milwaukee event 

Highlights-November1The Jones Island Water Reclamation Facility (Milwaukee) took center stage during the annual Doors Open Milwaukee. As one of the most popular of the event’s 150 attractions, the facility welcomes an increasing number of visitors each year and engages visitors in unique educational activities.


Flushables Outreach: The Singing Sewermen

Highlights-November2Since the celebrated Singing Sewermen of Thames Water (London) released their “debut single” in 2009, they have gone on to record several more hilarious, holiday-themed videos. These videos are the “Sewermen’s war cry” to prevent blockages.


WEFTEC® 2015 Breaks Records

Highlights-November3WEFTEC® 2015 has become the largest and most successful of the Water Environment Federation’s (Alexandria, Va.) annual technical exhibition and conferences. The event set records with 25,048 registrants and an exhibition with 1033 companies using 28,948 m2 (311,600 net ft2) of space.


WEF Announces 2015-2016 Board of Trustees

Highlights-November4The Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) welcomed the 2015–2016 Board of Trustees at WEFTEC® 2015. During a ceremony on Sept. 29, the WEF gavel of leadership passed from Ed McCormick of Ed McCormick Consulting LLC (Oakland, Calif.) to Paul Bowen, director of sustainable operations for the Coca-Cola Co. (Atlanta). Bowen’s plans include calling on WEF members to work together for the common goal of a healthy water environment.


Experience in WEF’s Water Leadership Institute Prepares Highlights Editor for the Future

Highlights-November5With increasing frequency, employees interested in leadership positions hear about the importance of cultivating “soft skills,” such as the ability to communicate effectively and build teams. As 2015 graduate of the Water Leadership Institute (WLI), WEF Highlights editor Jennifer Fulcher explores how participating helps develop these skills. In Memoriam – Martha Hahn, Colorado Authority Manager and Researcher

Highlights-November6Martha Hahn, authority manager of the Plum Creek Water Reclamation Authority (PCWRA; Castle Rock, Colo.) and WEFTEC® 2015 speaker, died Oct. 1. A member of the Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) and Rocky Mountain Water Environment Association since 2007, she entered the water sector in 2002 and quickly made a name for herself as a leader.
