Every year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency hosts the Fix a Leak Week and encourages water sector organizations to promote checking for and fixing leaks in fixtures and irrigation systems. The sixth annual promotion will be held March 17–23.

EPA’s WaterSense® provides information and interactive education for all ages. The website provides online quizzes, a water savings calculator, educational facts, classroom resources, technical information, tips to save water, promotional materials, and local resources on such topics as rebates and water-saving landscaping. The site is a portal to water-savings information for various audiences.

The website also provides information on events hosted around the country to promote water savings since the program began in 2009. Last year, schools, cities, public utilities, and companies hosted such educational events as races, leak-fixing demonstrations, informational seminars, an interactive exhibit, and a social media photo and video leak-fixing competition.

This year EPA encourages water sector organizations to incorporate a “Chasing Leaks” theme in events and consider hosting a race, walk, or, even, a snowshoe or dog sledding event. To get more involved, organizations can become a WaterSense Partner and access additional resources.
