Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) leaders participated in the “Water Sector Utility Sustainability: The Path Forward” forum, held Sept. 25 and 26 in Washington, D.C.

WEF Board of Trustees member George Martin and WEF Small Communities Committee Vice Chair Todd Danielson participated in the forum, which was organized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Office of Water. Martin and Danielson joined other water-sector representatives from around the United States to learn about the challenges and opportunities facing water-sector utilities as they implement sustainable practices; identify effective utility practice areas to promote more sustainable utility management; characterize gaps in knowledge, tools, and collaborations that prevent progress in utility sustainable management; and identify ways to fill these gaps.

WEF has been working to promote these kinds of developments through such efforts as the WEF Renewable Energy Generation from Wastewater Position Statement and the Roadmap to Energy Sustainability.
