Submit Nominations for the Utility of the Future Today Recognition Program

Utility of the Future TodayWater resource recovery facilities that embrace innovative solutions to solve challenges have an opportunity to be recognized. The Utility of the Future Today Recognition Program promotes those utilities working toward transforming operations by adopting innovative and sustainable utility management practices.

“The innovations coming to the water sector present an opportunity for a shift in the way utilities think about and solve long-standing challenges,” said Eileen O’Neill, executive director of the Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.). “WEF and the other partners are excited to recognize and salute those utilities that are embracing innovative ways to better serve their communities.”

The 2013 publication, “Water Resources Utility of the Future: A Blueprint for Action,” introduced the Utility of the Future concept. Qualities of a Utility of the Future include efforts to recover and reuse resources, transform the utility culture to support innovations, and engage with the community as well as form partnerships to promote sustainability.

Last year WEF joined the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (Washington, D.C.), Water Environment & Reuse Foundation (Alexandria, Va.), and WateReuse (Alexandria, Va.) in launching the recognition program with support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Utilities of any size are encouraged to apply by 5 p.m. (EDT), on June 9. Honorees will be recognized at an awards ceremony during WEFTEC® 2017 in Chicago. For more information contact UtilityRecognition@wef.org.
