Get outside and sample your local waterway for the World Water Monitoring Challenge™ (WWMC). Through Dec. 31, anyone can help protect water resources around the world by performing a series of hands-on tests of local lakes, rivers, and oceans.

The Water Environment Federation (Alexandria, Va.) and International Water Association (London) are coordinating WWMC, which builds public awareness and involvement for protecting water resources. The program offers various online resources, including guides to hosting events and monitoring waterways as well as the ability to view and share collected data, instructional and inspirational videos, and WWMC stories.

“WWMC provides a fun and easy way to engage [the public] to learn about some of the most common indicators of water health, and it encourages further participation in more formal citizen monitoring efforts,” said WEF Executive Director Eileen O’Neill.
