But, the Mennitis — a multi-generational family of engineers and Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) members — are just as likely to spar about all things related to water, stormwater, and wastewater treatment.


Take a Virtual Field Trip Through DC Water’s Stormwater Infrastructure

Highlights-January2Go online to get an up close and personal view of a giant tunnel and expansive green roof. These two components of DC Water’s (Washington, D.C.) Clean Rivers Project were the subject of a Nov. 19 virtual field trip. EarthEcho (Washington, D.C.) conducted “Virtual Field Trip: Managing Stormwater with DC Water.” Classrooms logged on and students participated in the 55-minute virtual field trip.


Suffolk County, N.Y., Holds Advanced Wastewater Treatment System Lottery

As part of septic system demonstration program, county gives away 19 treatment systems 

Highlights-January3In areas without collection systems, Suffolk County, N.Y., encourages residents to install more advanced septic systems to reduce nutrient loading to local surface water and groundwater. To promote these installations, the county held a free advanced wastewater treatment system lottery as part of a Septic Demonstration Program.

WEF Members and Staff Contribute to Water Anthology

Highlights-January5The book, Damned If We Don’t: Ideas for Accelerating Change Around Water, offers insight into water sector issues and personal stories from many different authors that include Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) members and staff. The water anthology provides ideas to better manage water with topics ranging from conservation to innovation to leadership.
