The Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) joined the American Water Works Association (Denver) and Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (Washington, D.C.) to send a letter to U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D–Calif.) on Sept. 9 supporting the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA).

The letter expresses the organizations’ support for a pilot water infrastructure financing program that would be authorized under the Water Resources Development Act. It also explains that WIFIA would complement existing state revolving fund programs. The letter commends the Senate for passing the WIFIA pilot program as part of the Water Resources Development Act (S. 601). The U.S. House of Representatives has not yet voted on its version of this act.
