WEF Submits Comments to EPA on Proposed Water Quality Rule

On Jan. 2, the Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) submitted comments on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Water Quality Standards Regulatory Clarification proposed rule. EPA has stated that it hopes the changes “will improve the regulation’s effectiveness in restoring and maintaining the chemical, physical, and biological integrity of the nation’s waters,” according to the summary of the proposed rule.

WEF supports the changes in the rule and believes that it will add clarity and transparency to EPA’s decision-making process, according to the comments. WEF also requested clarification on certain language in the rule and that EPA recognize certain state authorities related to rulemaking and water quality standards adoption.
