On March 25, the Water Environment Federation (WEF; Alexandria, Va.) staff and Linda Blankenship, chair of the WEF Government Affairs Committee’s Regulatory Subcommittee, met with staff from other organizations to discuss current understandings of key issues related to municipal affordability of wastewater and stormwater requirements. The discussion took place between WEF and representatives of the U.S. Conference of Mayors (Washington, D.C.), National Association of Counties (Washington, D.C.), and National League of Cities (Washington, D.C.).

The meeting was held in response to a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) request to establish a dialogue with local governments about municipal wastewater and stormwater financial capability and affordability. The dialogue between senior EPA managers and local officials, which will focus on the context of EPA’s integrated planning and permitting framework, is scheduled to begin later this spring.
